Turrell Suggs Is A Bastard Man: My thoughts from Eagles preseason week 2

It was week two of the preseason and guess who’s knee was feeling better? Sammy Bradford finally made his Eagles debut against the Baltimore Ravens, who I do wanna say have one of my favorite team names, THEY’RE NAMED AFTER A POEM!

For the second week in a row, what probably would of been a solid regular season game makes for just another meh blowout. Now the Eagles kicked ass in this one so when I say this game was meh, I mean it peaked early and then got boring. But I will say, damn that peak was pretty sweet.

Now I will say the Eagles looked good in this one, I take the win with a grain of salt because they were very much the benefit of a lot of Ravens penalties and a few bad plays.

But here are my thoughts from the game.

  • Sam Bradford went 3 for 5 on the day. Not bad. Even better considering he’s barley played football over the past two years. But overall bradford was ight. Made some throws. Missed others. Some passes should of been caught, some shouldn’t of. But the offense moved pretty well with Bradford at the helm, so yeah I’m hype.
  • I swear to God, I have no idea how he does it, but DeMarco Murray some how turns every single carry into six yards. No matter what. Dude can get hit in the backfield and carry three defenders for a first down. Still can’t believe this guy is an Eagle. Suck it Cowboys.
  • Ryan Matthews, if you keep this up you’re gonna become my favorite Eagle. This guy is powerful but nimble, he has solid vision, and he ain’t half bad as a receiver. In this offense, I really think he’s going to be everything he wasn’t in San Diego.
  • Terrell Suggs is a dirty player, anyone who says otherwise is a Ravens fan or doesn’t know much about Suggs. Now with that said, I don’t think Sugg’s hit on Sam Bradford was dirty or had malicious intent. It was a read option play and Suggs was just covering his man, he was playing good football. As for him going low, defensive players can’t hit high or they risk a penalty, with the way the rules are written I will always be in favor of the defensive player. All this does not excuse Suggs for close lining Brent Celek to death. That shit was dirty.
  • Jordan Matthews is the best receiver on the team, I’ll give it two seasons, three tops, until Nelson Agholor takes that crown. Jordan Matthews is still getting better, but DAMN Agholor looks special. He’s still a rookie and it shows in his game, but once those mental mistakes are fixed up, look out.
  • Andrew Gardener isn’t perfect, but he’s definitely not bad. With three players with pro bowl potential surrounding him, I think the line will be fine.
  • I’ll admit I was against Bennie Logan from the moment the Eagles took him, but I’ll also admit I was wrong. way wrong. So far through two preseason games, dude looks like a force. He is pure disruption. He’s been swallowing up lanes, getting into the backfield, and just all around reaping havoc.
  • None of the middle linebackers started. AGAIN! I want Kiko and Kendricks!
  • Byron Maxwell does not look like he was worth the money so far. Like not at all. He’s made a few plays, but thats been more about luck. He did intercept a pass, but thats only because the pass was so badly overthrown, the receiver got separation and would had the catch had it been in his bread basket. Maxwell has what it takes to be a good player, but he’s gonna have to do a lot to live up to that contract.
  • Joe Flacco isn’t elite.
  • Eric Rowe’s pretty cool. He wasn’t as good as week one, but still looked good. I’m dying to see him at safety though.
  • Walter Thurmond is even cooler. making a one handed interception off of a tipped pass in the end zone in his second game as a safety. He’s looking more and more like the centerfielder this team needed.
  • Kenjon Barner is gonna be an Eagle. If it wasn’t obvious after last week, it is now. Darren Sproles isn’t getting younger so taking him out of his special teams role wouldn’t be the worst idea, especially if it means an expanded role in the offense.
