That’s it people, shut it down. The season looked good and all, but its over, close up shop. The Eagles have already got this season locked up so there’s no point in even playing. THATS A WRAP PEOPLE!
Actually you know what, how bout we do play the season, just for shits and giggles.
K, now all of that was a little much, but after week three of the preseason the Eagles hype train is chugging strong and I have already bought my ticket, taken my seat, and am comfortably sitting aboard that train.
The Eagles looked like the real deal on Saturday, you have to feel confident after watching 1st team offense tear into the Packers starting D. This team that caught Chip Kelly so much crap is now making him look like the smartest guy in the room and boy does Chip Kelly get off to that.
Here are my thoughts from the Eagles third preseason game
- Sammy Bradford, where do I begin, this kid looked like an absolute beast. Bradford finished his day 10/10 for 121 and three TDs, pardon my erection, but thats a sexy stat line. This offense is looking pretty untouchable with Sammy at the helm. In four possessions this preseason Sam Bradford has scored four touchdowns, I’m feeling good about the Eagles previous redzone woes. Also I think its safe to expect ALOT of swing passes, Bradford went to his running backs early and often, they were his favorite target and his safety valve.
- Marky Mark was pretty good. Makes me feel a lot safer about that back up QB spot. The Sanchize is looking good.
- So when Chip Kelly said his offense needs a running back who just hits the hole, he really wasn’t kidding. So far this preseason, the Eagles ground game has been untouchable. DeMarco and Sammy are playing like its 2008 and Oklahoma’s on its way to the BCS title. Ryan Matthews didn’t look to shabby either, he flashed the stick’em a little bit with two catches. It’s looking like he’ll mostly be relegated to redzone carries. Darren Sproles had a Touchdown. Darren Sproles showed off why he’s a match up nightmare, linebackers can not cover this dude. Darren Sproles is the best third string running back in football. I love this offense.
- The Eagles should sign Ryan Broyles, you know just make this whole OU reunion a little more legit.
- Oh, Kenjon Barner had a 50 yard screen pass, so yeah pretty much just more of the same from him.
- Timmy Tebow got to audition as the NFL’s first, and possibly last, two point specialist. Tebow got the ball twice, he failed to convert both times and looked pretty bad on both attempts. He really just did not look like a competent quarterback. He looked dumb. He just kind of bumbled around in the backfield failing to make his read and would just try and force something that wasn’t there, wether it be running through a nonexistent lane or passing to a covered receiver. Him and Matt Barkley are now in the midst of a “Who can suck least” contest with no clear front runner. Really wouldn’t be surprised if neither made this team.
- Jordan Matthews is awesome. He’s only gonna get more awesome. I really can’t wait to see the Eagles receiving core a few years from now.
- Trey Burton was a nice little surprise with two touchdowns. He’s been flashing some versatility this preseason along with his usual high level special teams play. He may be able to become the swiss army knife player James Casey never was for Chip Kelly.
- Not that great a week for the rooks. Nelson Agholor had just two catches and was hardly a factor. Eric Rowe started on the outside for the first time and I don’t expect him to be playing there again any time soon. He looked very much the part of a rookie corner. He wasn’t mentally on the same level as everyone else and showed that he’s still got a lot of growing to do. There were times where the game just kind of swallowed him up and he’d get lost.
- The Eagles Dline is looking pretty damn good. The packers couldn’t do squat against the Eagles D and the line has a lot to do with that. Fletcher Cox looks like he’s only getting better, he’s quickly becoming the Eagles baddest player. Bennie Logan is going to make the pro bowl this year too.
- Kiko is such a tease. He gets us all worked up just to let all the hype out. But hey at least Mychal Kendricks finally played. and now that he’s locked up for the next few years I’m excited to see what him and Kiko can do together.
- Was REALLY hoping Aaron Rogers would suit up for this one, figured the reigning league MVP would be a good test for our secondary, but no he was too busy making bud smash videos with Olivia Munn. So instead the it was another half assed test for the birds, just as a quick review the Eagles have seen Matt Hasselback, Bryan Bridge, a non-elite Joe Flacco, Matt Schaub, and most recently Brett Hundley, still have no idea what to expect from the Eagles defensive backfield.
- Byron Maxwell still has yet to impress me. Some people are excited about him, but I’m just not seeing it. I keep seeing him out of position and leaving people open. He’s got me nervous.
- Walter Thuromund is still killing the game. Pick sixs and high stepping into the end zone are now just apart of the daily routine.
- Very much curious as to what’s gonna happen at the second safety spot. Its still pretty open right now, but I think James Couplin may have the slight lead over Ed Reynolds. A lots gonna hang on the fourth preseason game, if Couplin continues doing what he’s doing I think he’ll have the job locked up. If Ed Reynolds can show anything similar to what he did in the fourth quarter of the first preseason game, he could steal it.
- Kip Smith took over the kicking duties for Cody Parkey. Parkey’s injury would explain his early preseason mistakes, but still the injury does have me concerned. Alex Henry taught me to never overvalue the kicker position. With all that said, I don’t mind seeing Kip Smith kick a few knuckleballs through the uprights, I’m a huge fan of the #LaserShow
- Oh and just as a way tempering some Eagles fans Super Bowl hype, I just wanted to give you a little reminder that the Lions went undefeated in the preseason the year they went 0-16. PRESEASON DOES NOT MATTER.
